Feature: Drake

Here's a brief Q&A with new, up-and-coming artist Drake who I introduced to you in earlier posts. He's one of my favorite new artists straight out of Canada. I've been pumping this guy's music pretty heavy on here so, you should have some idea who this guy is already. Get to know Drake if you don't.

MoShaDee: Who is Drake and where did it all start?

Drake: Drake is just a super cool kinda dude. He’s real fresh and just a breath of fresh air in the rap game. He provides a new prospective. It all started in Toronto, Canada from a very young age.

MoShaDee: How did your passion for music come about?

Drake: I grew up around music and the industry due to my dad and my uncle being (in) the industry. I’ve always been drawn to music.

MoShaDee: Will you continue to pursue acting, maybe in movies if offered, while pursuing your music career?

Drake: Definitely. Music and acting are the only two things in life that I can really commit to doing.

MoShaDee: Who are your influences?

Drake: My dad, my uncle, Pharrell, Kanye, Jay-Z, Frank Sinatra, Biggie, Tupac, N*E*R*D.

MoShaDee: How did you link up with Lil' Wayne?

Drake: Through management contacts.

MoShaDee: Who is your favorite producer?

Drake: Pharrell and N*E*R*D.

MoShaDee: What is one thing that separates you from other artists?

Drake: I just have a different outlook on life and the fact that I’m from Canada.

MoShaDee: What is your favorite song of yours?

Drake: I like all my songs, but today I’m feeling "Still Fly."

MoShaDee: What is your opinion on the current state of Hip-Hop?

Drake: I think it’s changed dramatically from the past to now. Everyone these days has a different definition of what Hip-Hop is so it’s hard to compare things these days.

MoShaDee: When did you discover you could sing?

Drake: When I was really little. Maybe three or something.

MoShaDee: When can we expect a Drake album?

Drake: Look for it in 2009. No release date yet but it’s in the works as we speak.

MoShaDee: Any offers or label deals on the table?

Drake: There are deals on the table and it’s only a short period of time before I pick one.

MoShaDee: What is your motivation?

Drake: My drive and determination. This is something I’ve been going after for a while and that’s why I won’t give up, plus my family. I want to give my mom everything she desires because of everything I’ve put her through with this journey.

MoShaDee: How would you describe your sound and style?

Drake: Unique, fresh, old school mixed with new school, super cool, and unlike anything you’ve heard before.

MoShaDee: What are you currently working on musically?

Drake: The new mixtape due out in 2009. I’ve got some shows possibly in the mix as well. I’m also trying to get some of these feature request done.
